My Favorite Gluten Free Hush Puppies (Copycat)

This might sound weird, but one of my favorite things in the whole wide world are the hush puppies from Long John Silvers. I grew up with one at the end of my street, and while I have never been a huge fan of fish, the hush puppies were perfection. Sadly, I don’t live there anymore and Long John Silvers isn’t there anymore either. Not to mention, for people like myself, with a gluten sensitivity, hush puppies aren’t traditionally a safe choice either. One day while doing some historical recipe research (I’m a historical cookbook collector), I stumbled across a recipe for hushpuppies that I got from The Henry Ford,…

The Best Ever Cheesy Garlic Bread

Three words hold the keys to my heart: Cheesy. Garlic. Bread. Seriously, if there’s one thing I think I could eat every single day and it would not get old, it’s dough, covered in melted cheese, and slathered in a butter garlic sauce. I sprinkle mine with parsley to throw in something green and for a pop of brightness. Making cheesy garlic bread really begins with the dough. You want a really good quality pizza dough, that is heavy in olive oil. This gives the dough flavor, but also creates a very moist and tender crumb, without tasting greasy. From the dough, you need some really good mozzarella cheese. You…

    My Favorite Challah Bread

Let me start off by saying I am not Jewish, and as far as I know, this recipe is not kosher. Maybe it is, but I’m not Jewish, so I really don’t know. What I do know is that I love Jewish food. Latkes, matzoh ball soup, sufganiyot, bagels, lox, and schmear. It is all, so, so delicious. I also love challah. It’s beautiful and braided with a softy eggy interior. It’s amazing. And I have to say, my children agree. In fact, I have now made challah so much in my house, I can officially say I have a favorite recipe. What you’ll find below is My Favorite Challah.…

Greek-Style Pasta Salad with Summer Squash

One of my favorite parts about summer in Michigan is squash season. Boil it, broil it, grill it, roast it, bake it, saute it, steam it…I wait not only for the warm weather of summer, but for the squash. And this Greek-Style Pasta Salad with Summer Squash showcases the best of this summer vegetable. My own garden hasn’t yielded any squash yet, so I couldn’t resist stocking up at the local farmer’s market as soon as they started appearing. I’m notorious for being a little overzealous with my squash purchases, and much like bananas, they end up going bad before I ever get to eat them. So I had to…

Pasta with Butter, Sage, and Parmesan

I LOVE pasta. So much so, that think I might have been an Italian grandmother in a past life. My love for noodles is on another level. Load that pasta up with butter, sage, and parm and I’m in heaven. Before I went gluten free, I ate pasta 3-4 times per week. It was my go-to dinner. Fast, easy, and not a lot of prep. For a working mom of three, pasta was a weeknight-savior. And then, cold turkey. No pasta for me. My kids kept enjoying it’s deliciousness, while I nibbled trail mix in the corner. Side-eyeing them while I stewed in my own jealousy. As time has gone…
